I did a year fellowship in Wrightington in 2018/9 during which John repeatedly made himself available to teach the fellows, passing on his brilliant stories and pearls of wisdom with his typical charm, wit and passion.  He invited us over to his home for an evening feed, drinks and medicolegal masterclass.  Although I only met John on these few occasions, his generosity and kindness has left an imprint on me that will last a lifetime.  My thoughts and best wishes go to all his family and friends.
